Obituary of Robert Dale Rumer
Robert Dale Rumer,
80, of Terra Alta, (Cranesville community) passed away on Tuesday May 15, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family.
The son of the late Guy Harold and Myrtle Elsie Bowman Shaffer Rumer, he was born May 23, 1937 in Eglon.
Robert was an avid lover of music. He played since he got his first guitar at the age of 14. He and his wife formed a band called Country Trio and played country music shows and events. They sang at local nursing homes faithfully playing country music for the residents once or twice a month for many years. He was inducted into the Golden Circle of Country Music Honor Society for 50 years of playing country music in WV on October 9, 2005.
Robert served in the National Guard and the Army Reserve. He also loved crafts, wood working and helping people any way he could, including working on their vehicles. He was well loved by his family, friends and everyone he met in his life.
He is survived by his wife Carol Simmons Rumer, they were united in marriage on August 23, 1958 and were devoted to each other for 59 years. His children: Robert A. Rumer of Pasadena, MD, Donald and Edgardo Rumer-Rivera of Scottsdale, AZ, Barb and Steve Ross of Stewartstown, PA, and Kim and Dave Gantt of Glen Rock, PA. His grandchildren: Andrew Gerhard, Juliana Rivera, Holley Ross, Lauren Stankiewicz, Michelle Cole and D. J. and Michael Rumer-Rivera. Including his great grandchildren, Madison, Ethan, Ryan, Ava, Wesley, Charlotte and Liam. His siblings: Lawrence Rumer of Bucyrus, OH, Eloine Metheny of Bruceton Mills and Virginia Wilhelm of Terra Alta and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Ruby Casteel; a brother, Richard Rumer; three brothers-in-law, J.G. Metheny, Elwood Wilhelm and Ivan Casteel and two sisters-in-law, Darnice Rumer and Gertrude Rumer.
Family and friends will be received at the Arthur H. Wright Funeral Home, Terra Alta on Friday from 4-8:00 p.m. and at the Faith United Methodist Church from 10:00 a.m. on Saturday May 19, 2018 until the 12:00 noon time of service with Pastor Daniel Fulton and Rev. David Spence officiating. Burial will follow in the Centenary Cemetery.
