James Edwin Smith, 84, of Kingwood, WV, passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at the WV Caring Hospice Facility in Elkins, WV.

He was born on October 31, 1939, in Detroit, MI, a son of the late Joseph Smith and Mildred (Weaver) Smith.

James graduated from Kingwood High School and WVU. He was a Nationwide Insurance agent where he owned and operated his business since 1965. James was an outdoorsman and avid hunter.

He is survived by his son, Jeffrey J. Smith and wife, Cassie of Morgantown; daughter, Sonia J. Greaser and husband, Robert of Terra Alta; daughter-in-law, Dawn Smith of Morgantown; brother, Larry Smith; sister, Carolyn McCain; five grandchildren, Dane (Quynh) Greaser, Chelsey (Matt) McMillian, Levi Smith, McKinzee Smith, and Addison Smith; six great grandchildren, Joceyn and Alannah Goodlyn, Barrett, Sunny, Skye, and Sylvie.

In addition to his parents, James is preceded in death by his loving wife, Connie Carrico Smith; son, Jay Michael Smith, and sister, JoAnn Markwood.

To honor James' wishes, cremation services will be entrusted with the Arthur H Wright Funeral Home in Terra Alta. Private family services will be held at a later date with burial at the Aurora Cemetery.
