Harriet Freeland

Obituary of Harriet Virginia Freeland

Harriet Virginia (Bolyard) Freeland, 87, was called to Heaven on May 6, 2024, at her home in Terra Alta, WV, where she was surrounded by her loving husband and several family members.

She was born October 22, 1936, to the late Everett and Alice 'Louise' (Lewis) Bolyard.

The Lord called Harriet to be many things. She was a devoted wife to a third-generational farmer and a stay-at-home mother of six beautiful children.

She was a member of the Freeland United Methodist Church of Terra Alta, WV where she played the piano on Sunday mornings for the congregation. She was a wonderful children's Sunday school and VBS teacher. She volunteered many of her days to help clean the church, make peanut butter easter eggs, and sing in the choir. Daily she went to the Lord in prayer for her family, friends and many others. She was a devout and faithful Christian.

Harriet is survived by her husband of 70 years, Harland James 'Jim' Freeland. She leaves behind her children Jeff (Debbie) Freeland, Jennings Freeland, Ann (Richard) Nine, and Lucia (Forrest) Curren; all of Terra Alta, and Larry (Janet) Freeland of Oakland, MD; one daughter-in-law, Karen Bell Freeland of Terra Alta.

She was blessed with many grandchildren: Jamie (Rodney), Amanda (Wade), Brandy (Jeff), Katie (Dave), Michael, David, Kaylan (Jason), Mallorie (DJ), Brittany (Dain), James (Kyria) and Johnathan (Lynsey); several great-grandchildren Cody(Ashley), Hunter, Andrea, Ryan, Carter, Conner, Ella, Ava, Landon, Madison, Cora, Trader, Harley, Ethan, Kenleigh, Grayson, Lainey, Harland, Grace and baby Bristol to arrive in August,  and a great-great grandchild, Cooper. She is also survived by one sister Joyce Jean McGinnis of Tennessee and one sister-in-law Dorthy Bolyard of Kingwood, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

On the day Harriet left us here on earth she was greeted by her youngest son, James Harland 'Jimmy' Freeland who passed away in June of 2003. A reunion she has been waiting for.

In addition to her parents and son, Jimmy, she was preceded in death by two sisters and their spouses Ramona and Tom Miller and Charlotte and Donald Freeland, an older brother and spouse Charles and Marion Bolyard, a brother Louis Bolyard, a brother- in-law and spouse Robert and Dot Freeland and sister-in-law and spouse Maxine and Ralph Feather, and two additional brothers-in-law, John Jennings Freeland and John McGinnis.
