Obituary of Thelma Arlene DeWitt

Thelma Arlene DeWitt, 91, of Terra Alta, passed away Sunday March 5, 2023 at Stonerise Kingwood with family by her side. The daughter of the late John Nelson Blair and Wilda Madge Baker Murphy, she was born July 21, 1931 in Terra Alta. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Terra Alta. She retired from Hopemont Hospital. Thelma enjoyed quilting and crossword puzzles. She like to have vegetable and flower gardens and enjoyed canning. She was a WVU Mountaineer fan and Steeler fan. She always liked to gather her family for a Sunday meal and loved to be around her grandchildren, great grandchildren and grand dog, Bailey. She was a loving mother who taught her children how to work and respect others. She is survived by four sons, Charles DeWitt, Jr. of Lenox, Randall DeWitt of Terra Alta, Jimmy (Jane) DeWitt of Arthurdale and Michael (Linda) DeWitt of Lake Lynn, PA; two daughters and spouses, Linda (Buddy) Freeland of Terra Alta and Brenda (Rowdy) Dixon of Lenox; two sisters, Phyllis Menear of Rowlesburg and Janice Menear of Kingwood; 15 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles DeWitt, Sr.; two sons, Sgt. Clifford DeWitt and infant son Terry DeWitt; a daughter-in-law, Shirley DeWitt; two sisters, Rita Moats and Carolyn Kelly; one brother, Larry Murphy; her mother and father-in-law, Harry and Goldie DeWitt and her childhood friend, Coralie Stemple. Family and friends will be received at the Arthur H. Wright Funeral Home, Terra Alta on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 and from 12:00 noon on Thursday March 9, 2023 until the 1:00 p.m. time of service with Rev. Michael Lantz officiating.
