Ernie was our pastor at Wesley Chapel in Short Gap, WV. He was such an awesome pastor during my teenage years. Great memories, especially MYF activities. Our family, Frank and Pearl Mace loved him and his family. My sympathy and prayers to all of you.

I remember as a new minister in the then "Romney District" that we had a pastors' meeting at the Burlington Children's Home. Frank Bourner was the D.S. at the time; and he did a devotional while Ernie did a chalk drawing at the same time about the same subject. I was impressed. Over the years I came to know Ernie and considered him a close friend and a special brother in the ministry. He will be remembered. He will be missed. His talent, his message, his life, and his faith leaves a huge legacy behind and surely has earned him many jewels for his crown. I can remember listening to him expound the virtues and graces of God's love... a subject he knew through and through... having experienced that precious love and the grace that abounds with it in his personal and family life. Much love, many prayers, and my / our (Mary joins me) deepest sympathy to all in his family, his church family, his friends, and his colleagues (like me) who are deeply saddened by his passing. Our loss is assuredly Heaven's gain.

When I attended North View UMC in Clarksburg, I was a single mom of four boys. I told Ernie I wanted to meet a good Christian man to love me and my sons. He gave me a tape of a young minister who wrote God a letter, asking Him for all the qualities he wanted in a spouse. I did that very thing, and in less than two years, God answered my letter with my perfect soulmate, Steve. We were married in 1996, by Ernie, of course! I know in my “knower” that i was put in Ernie and Peg’s care during those years. They were like parents to me, even though they weren’t old enough to be my parents! Once, I had asked Ernie if he’d marry me one day (meaning when God answered my letter)...he got that ornery grin on his face, and said, “well, I would, Becky, but I don’t think Peg would like it.” He was so ornery, and saw the humor in everything! My thoughts and prayers are with Peg, Gary, Kevin, Lisa, Brad and all the family. We all know he’s in glory! Becky Rogers

Becky I didn’t realize Ernie was the one who led you to writing that letter. It is amazing how many others that were brought together through that like Chris and I. I loved going to Ernie and Peggy’s two wonderful friends. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I can still see that big smile and glimmering eyes.

We had the pleasure of "Ernie" presiding over our wedding in 1979 at Reed's Creek Church in Pendleton County. I will never forget that he asked my then husband to be if he wanted to jump out the window! Needless to say, he stayed and we have been married for 40 years. That was Ernie. We hope it gives you a chuckle at least at this very sad time. We will never forget him!
With love & prayers,
Mike & Pam Hedrick
