Obituary of Connie Murphy DeLauder
Connie M. DeLauder,
56, of Terra Alta, died Friday, July 1st, 2016, in the comfort of her home with her immediate family.
The daughter of the late Charles Isiah and Helen Louise Murphy Whetsell, she was born August 18th, 1959 in Leesburg, VA.
Connie was an active member of St. Edward's Catholic Church where she served as an Eucharistic Minister for several years as well as a Catechism teacher. In previous years, she had worked with St. Jude Children's Hospital hosting bike-a-thons, with Terra Alta Lion's Club serving as an officer and orchestrating fundraisers, and with Travelers' 4-H club ensuring her daughter's participation in charitable events since childhood. She worked hard to make the world a better place for others.
She began working at Pioneer Press in 1977 as a type setter. Connie continued working until she was physically unable to continue in February of this year. She enjoyed vacationing with her family; and, in particular, loved going to Virginia Beach.
Her sense of humor was her most-prized possession, and she had a natural talent for making people laugh and helping everyone feel welcome and included. She loved with her whole heart at all times, and always put others' needs before her own.
She was an absolutely amazing wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
She is survived by her husband of 34 years Christopher Lynn DeLauder; daughter Lydia Marie DeLauder Everly and spouse Matthew; sisters and spouses, Debra and Kenneth Barnard and Joann and Ted Jenkins; brothers and spouses, Charles Whetsell and Angie, William Powell and Francis, and Rodney Powell and Kathy; two grandsons Atticus Christopher and Elijah Michael Everly, all of Terra ALta; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Arthur H. Wright Funeral Home of Terra Alta on Monday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with a Rosary Service immediately following at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 5th, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Edward's Catholic Church in Terra Alta, Fr. Andrew Switzer celebrant. Interment to follow in Terra Alta Cemetery.
Donations may be made in Connie’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
