Obituary of John William Markwood

John W. Markwood, Jr., 73, of Terra Alta, died Saturday February 20, 2016 at his home at Alpine Lake. The son of the late John W. Markwood, Sr. and Willard E. Wilhelm Markwood he was born February 21, 1942 at Cumberland, MD. He was the manager of Peoples Store and Markwood Clothing Store in Terra Alta. Along with his father, he owned and operated J & J Ford Sales and J & J Mobile Home Sales. In his younger years, he liked to drive sports cars and drag race. He and his wife loved vacationing in Florida and bass fishing on Lake Okeechobee. He is survived by three children; Brent Allen Markwood of San Francisco, CA, Michael Shawn Markwood and wife Tammy of Oakland, MD and Christi Jo Markwood and fiancé Dan Wilt of McCool, MD; a sister and spouse, Kitty Lou and Jack Hill of Kingwood; seven grandchildren: John William Markwood, III, Alexis and MiKayla Markwood, Eric Pittman, Jacqueline and Shawn Markwood and Abbigail Baker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, JoAnn Markwood and a son, John Robert Markwood. A graveside service will be held June 18, 2016 at the Terra Alta Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Pat Kerr officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Arthur H. Wright Funeral Home, Terra Alta, WV.
