Obituary of Lawrence Edward Sypolt

Lawrence Edward "Sype" Sypolt, 83, of Terra Alta, died peacefully on July 10, 2023 at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown. The son of the late Ray Ernest and Lottie Virginia Smith Sypolt, he was born August 5, 1939, in Cranesville. He attended Crellin United Brethren Church. He graduated from Terra Alta High School in the class of 1958. He managed Peoples Market in Rowlesburg for 41 years, he has been a Dallas Cowboy fan and Jeff Gordon fan for over 40 years. Sype was very active in the community. He was a member of the Terra Alta Moose Lodge, he volunteered at the food pantry for 15 years and belonged to the neighborhood watch. He loved the railroad. He got to ride in the trains and would video all the beautiful sights as he was traveling by. He played Santa Clause in Terra Alta and Rowlesburg and gave out candy to the children. He was still working at Par Mar until recently. He is survived by one brother and spouse, George, and Nancy Sypolt of Grafton; a sister, Anna Lou Phillips of Terra Alta; a sister-in-law, Margaret Sypolt of Blacksburg, VA; several nieces and nephews; a special friend, Ima Thomas and many other friends and co-workers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, June Sypolt, Earnest "John" Sypolt, and Dale "Wop" Sypolt; two sisters, Gladys Dillsworth, Bertha Slater; and his best dog "Friday".
