Carolyn Virginia (Shaffer) Wiles, 89, of Aurora, WV, passed away Monday, May 11, 2026, at Garrett Regional Medical Center in Oakland, MD.

She was born March 13, 1937, in the Freeport community near Oakland, MD, a daughter of the late Omar Daniel Shaffer and Mary Hannah (Bennett) Shaffer.

Carolyn devoted her life to caring for others. She worked as a nurse's aide in several nursing homes, where her kindness, compassion, and gentle spirit touched countless lives. A faithful member of Brookside Covenant Brethren Church, she found joy in serving others through both her faith and everyday acts of love.

She had a special gift for making people feel welcome. Whether she was baking and decorating cakes, preparing home-cooked meals, sewing, crocheting, or crafting, Carolyn poured love into everything she did. Her home was a place of warmth, comfort, laughter, and full plates, and her greatest happiness came from caring for the people around her. She loved deeply, gave generously, and was always there when someone needed her.

She is survived by two daughters, Emily Ford and Dinah Hebb; 18 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Eugene Shaffer and Carl Shaffer, and two sisters, Betty Atkinson and Debbie Strawser.

In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband Charlie D. Wiles, Jr.; son, Charlie D. Wiles III., and daughter, Beverly L. Wiles.

Friends may call at the Arthur H. Wright Funeral Home in Terra Alta on Friday, May 15, 2026, from 4-8 pm and on Saturday, May 16, 2026 from 12:00 noon until the 2:00 pm time of service with Pastor Mark Teets officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Lantz Ridge, WV.
