Lawrence Dewhite "Butch" Harner Obituary

Lawrence "Butch" Dewhite Harner, 82, of Allentown, Pennsylvania, passed away on May 4, 2026, following a sudden illness.

He was the son of the late Boyd Lawrence Harner and Betty Florence (Feathers) Harner.

Butch was Methodist by faith and graduated from Terra Alta High School in 1962. Following high school, he worked as a secretary at Teets Garage before attending airline school in New Orleans.

He later made his home in Allentown, where he relocated in 1968. He built a long and dedicated career in banking, working at the same bank through numerous name changes and mergers until his retirement ten years ago.

In retirement, Butch embraced life fully. He enjoyed traveling, especially cruises, playing bingo, visiting casinos, and dining out with friends. Known for his kind and generous nature, he was always willing to lend a hand, whether helping fellow tenants in the apartment community or assisting friends on the bingo bus. His warmth and willingness to help others left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

He loved to travel, but he always cherished returning home to West Virginia. No matter where he went, he remained faithful to coming back in July and at Christmas.

In Allentown, he also shared a special bond with a close-knit circle of friends who became like family to him.

Butch will be remembered for his kindness, his generosity, and the joy he brought to those around him. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, Butch is preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Glotfelty, and brother-in-law, Bruce Glotfelty.

Butch is survived by his sister, Wanda Friend of Morgantown, as well as many nieces and nephews, Rick Glotfelty (Kim) of Corinth, Vicki Tennant of Morgantown, Cindy Hart (Tim) of Morgantown, Ken Friend of Fairmont, Michele Dillsworth (Jamie) of Corinth, and Brian Friend (Sherri) of Morgantown. He is also survived by his great-nephews, Daniel Hensley of Terra Alta, Jordan Friend of Morgantown, Brian Glotfelty (Courtney) of Corinth, and Austin Glotfelty (Tara) of Terra Alta; Robert Friend of Greensboro, PA and Owen Friend of Morgantown; great-nieces, Amanda Tennant of Arizona, Kristin Wilson of Fairview; Lexi Smith (Noah) of Morgantown, Emily Edwards of Corinth, Allison Dillsworth and fiancé Vova of Corinth; and Bailey Friend of Morgantown.
