Willard Allan DeWitt Obituary

Willard Allan DeWitt, 84, of Terra Alta, WV, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, February 1, 2026.


 


He was born on November 11, 1941, in Crellin, MD, the son of the late Elmer Willard DeWitt and Esther (Hollis) DeWitt.


 


Allan proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the 18th Airborne Corps - United States Army. He attended Faith Church in Cranesville. Allan was employed as a lineman with Western Union and worked in maintenance and retired with Albright Power Station. After retiring, he enjoyed farming and gardening. Allan was an avid hunter, waiting for the next deer season to approach. He also enjoyed bowling and loved golfing, regularly having a season pass at Alpine Lake Golf Course.


 


He is survived by a sister, Cosette Harman and husband, Edgar; brother-in-law, Pat Metheny and wife, Marilyn; sister-in-law, Carolyn Metheny; nephews, Jarrod White, Kenneth Metheny, Fredrick Metheny, Eugene Metheny, Cecil "Bud" Dunson, Nick Coppola, David White, Greg White, and Scott Metheny; nieces, Gwen Evans, Allison White, Erriga VanDyne, Suzanne Howe, Diane Bateman, Patty Bennett, Maggie Stottlemyer, Linda Barlow, and Shannon Depue; numerous great nieces and nephews, and many great-great nieces and nephews.


 


In addition to his parents, Allan is preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Thelma Rae (Metheny) DeWitt; sister, Patricia McBee and husband, Leo; nephew, Jimmy McBee, and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Donald Metheny and wife, Ruth, Vera Dunson and husband, Edwin, Pricilla Coppola and husband, Edward, Carol White and husband, Robert, and Steve Metheny.


 


Friends may call at the Faith Church, 6639 Cranesville Road, Terra Alta, WV 26764, on Monday, February 16, 2026, from 6-8 pm and on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, from 10 am until the 11 am time of service with Pastor Mike Saturday officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by the WVANG Honor Guard and the Preston County Honor Guard VFW Post 1589 of Masontown, WV.
