Obituary of Josephine Virginia Sypolt

Josephine Virginia Sypolt, 61, of Independence, WV, passed away Thursday January 1, 2026, at home.

Born on July 4, 1964, in Morgantown, WV, to the late Isaac Richard Peters and Helen Virginia (Smouse) Peters.

Josephine took on the most important job as a homemaker and was a God-fearing woman. She enjoyed watching westerns, camping, and in her younger years, fishing. Josephine absolutely loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Brittany Sypolt and Brandon Cale; three grandchildren, Wyatt James Sypolt, Jayana Shae Cale, and Trenton Lee Cale; brother- in-law, Daily "Hussy" Sypolt, Jr.; her best fur-friend, Sadie, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Josephine is preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Donald Lee "Scruffy" Sypolt; sisters, Charlotte Metheny and Jerelene Dixon; brothers-in-law, Timothy R. Sypolt, Sr. and Harold "Hayseed" Sypolt; sisters-in-law, Sarah Grace Fisher and Diane Sypolt; niece, Kammie Lantz, and nephew, Nicholas Sypolt.

Friends may call at the Arthur H. Wright Funeral Home in Terra Alta, WV, on Wednesday January 7, 2026, from 2:00 pm until the 5:00 pm time of service with Pastor Samuel G. Moon officiating. To honor Josephine's request, she will be cremated.
