Obituary of Vernon James Sheets

Vernon James Sheets, 88, of Terra Alta, WV, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at home with family by his side.

He was born February 6, 1937, in Rowlesburg, WV, the son of the late Vernon Rafael Sheets and Martha Lorraine (Braithwood) Sheets.

Vernon proudly served in the United States Army. He attended the First Church in Terra Alta. Vernon was a member of the Elks Lodge NO. 2481, in Oakland, MD. He loved porch sitting, watching wildlife, especially birds, and watching the leaves turn and dropping in the fall. He loved books and reading. Most of all, Vernon was a family man; he loved his children and grandchildren.

Vernon is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Nina Jane (Weaver) Sheets; daughter, Tracy Anne Bonner (Vint); sister, Katherine Teter (Ralph); six grandchildren, Christopher (Brittany), Travis (Katie), Patrick, Patricia, Tyler (Kristina), and Devin; eight great grandchildren, Brogan, Emalyn, Lincoln, Kase, Mac, Teddy, Marley, and Cody; and several nieces, nephews, and special friends.

In addition to his parents, Vernon is preceded in death by his son, Todd Anthony Sheets, sister, Tena Turner, and brothers, Hope Sheets and Willard Sheets

To honor his wishes, Vernon will be cremated. The Arthur H. Wright Funeral Home in Terra Alta will be providing professional and compassionate services.

The family will be holding a memorial service and inurnment on a later date.
