Norma Jean (Ashby) Murphy,

 

78, of Terra Alta, died Friday, April 6, 2018 at home surrounded by her loving family. The daughter of the late Herbert and Lilly (Shaw) Ashby, she was born May 9, 1939 in Grafton, WV.

Norma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She loved cooking for her family and had a special place in her heart for all her grandchildren. She liked to play bingo and color.

She is survived by her husband of almost 62 years, Harley A. Murphy, Sr.; six sons, William Murphy of Accident, MD, Ronald Murphy and companion Brenda of Oakland, MD, Harley Murphy, Jr. and companion Doris of Westernport, MD, Robert (Dee) Murphy, Sr. of Oakland, MD; Keith (Brenda) Murphy of Terra Alta; and Cody (Kristy) Murphy of Friendsville, MD; three daughters, Brenda Porter of Oakland, MD, Sandy Murphy and companion Kenny and Linda Rodeheaver all of Terra Alta; two sisters, Pat Ryan and Sharon Ashby; eight brothers, Bill, Don, Roger, Butch, Joe, Ran, Tom and Rick Ashby; 16 grandchildren: Faith (Jimmy), Vaughn (Shannon), Heather (Bradley), Andy (Heather), Mark, Josh (Amy), Nick (Kristy), Bobby (Stephanie), Darina (Chad), Kevin, Ronnie (Pam), Mike (Marie), Whitney (Matt), Ashley (Brandon), Richann (Denny), J.B. (Amanda); and 25 great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Jean Fike (4/1/2000), a daughter-in-law, Theresa Murphy; two sons-in-law, Howard Sisler and Russell Fike; and a great grandson, Bryson H. Rodeheaver.

Family and friends will be received at the Arthur H. Wright Funeral Home, Terra Alta on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 and from 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 until the 11:00 a.m. time of service with Rev. Stanley Waybright officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt, Zion Cemetery, Swanton, MD.
