Obituary of Lola Samantha Stouffer

Lola Samantha Stouffer, 90, of Terra Alta, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at Garrett Regional Medical Center, Oakland, MD. The daughter of the late Levi and Mary Robinson Yonker, she was born October 22, 1927 in Terra Alta, WV. She was the last surviving member of her family of 13 Yonker children. Lola retired at the age of 72 where she had been a secretary at Terra Alta/East Preston High School for 37 years. She and her late husband, Lou, played the community Mrs. And Mr. Santa Claus in Terra Alta and surrounding areas for over 30 years. They provided gifts and items to make Christmas special for many children, and even returned letters to children who wrote to Santa. Lola and Louis were selected as number 70 of America's Points of Light by George H. Bush during his presidency. The 1,000 Points of Light are listed in the Library of Congress. She is survived by two daughters, Cheyenne of Phoenix, Arizona and Betsy Gammon of Danville, VA; seven grandchildren: Jessie, Jana, Jamie, Andrew, Garrett, Jr., Jonathan and Patrick; five great grandchildren; 1 great-great granddaughter; and a good friend, Ellda Bennett and her family with whom she made her home for the last several months. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, James D. Shaffer; her second husband, Louis E. Stouffer; two children, James D. Shaffer II and Linda Fristoe and one granddaughter, Nikki. Family and friends will be received at Arthur H. Wright Funeral Home from 12:00 noon Sunday February 11, 2018 until the 1:00 p.m. celebration of life memorial service. At her request, cremation service will be provided by Arthur H.
